Attorney Bios

David M. LaGrand

David LaGrand graduated from Calvin College in 1988 with a Bachelor in Arts degree in History. After graduate work at the University of Michigan in History, LaGrand went on to earn a law degree from the University of Chicago in 1992.

During his legal studies, LaGrand worked in West Michigan at Warner, Norcross & Judd and Dykema Gossett. After graduation, LaGrand returned to Grand Rapids, working first at Warner, Norcross & Judd and then for eight years as an Assistant Kent County Prosecutor. In the Prosecutor’s office, LaGrand concentrated on upholding convictions on appeal and on prosecuting domestic violence crimes.

In 2000, LaGrand joined Gerald Lykins to form a private law firm. In 2007, he joined with Chris Yates and Paul Denenfeld to form Yates, LaGrand & Denenfeld PLLC. Chris Yates left the firm in 2008 to become a Kent County Circuit Court judge. Paul Denenfeld left the country in 2009 to head a non?governmental agency, and thus LaGrand & Associates was formed. Currently, LaGrand concentrates his practice in the areas of criminal and juvenile law. Some of his greatest achievements involve working with his clients and their community to seek socially responsible salutations to the breach of law.

In 2007, LaGrand was elected as a Grand Rapids City Commissioner for the Second Ward.

Jessica Lowery

Jessica (Talbot) Lowery was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She attended Catholic Central High School, and then went on to receive her Bachelors in Arts from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Following college graduation, Jessica moved to Detroit to attend Wayne State University Law School. While in law school, Jessica clerked for both a criminal defense attorney in downtown Detroit, as well as a criminal appellate attorney. It was during this time that Jessica became especially interested in practicing criminal defense. Following her law school graduation and admission to the Michigan State Bar, Jessica returned to Grand Rapids. She joined David LaGrand at LaGrand & Denenfeld, PLLC in early 2009 and subsequently, LaGrand & Lowery PLLC following Judge Denenfeld’s appointment to the Circuit Court bench.

Jessica lives in Grand Rapids with her husband and their two dogs.
